Single Sign-On (Enterprise Feature)

Single Sign-On (Enterprise Feature)

July 2020

Imagine this: Your team is starting off their productive workday – and click – and just like that, they can access all work-related applications with just one login. No password chaos and no resets because someone forgot their login data.

To make it even easier and more secure for your team to log in, our work management tool now features authentication via single sign-on (SSO).

This allows users to log into awork with just one existing account without having to create a new account or remembering a new password. From the user’s point of view, this is super convenient because each user gets direct access to their applications, and with single sign-on they only need one password.

How does logging in work with an authentication method like single sign-on?

Every user in your company logs on to their workstation once and can then access all applications for which they have the necessary access rights.

How does this login work in practice? An upstream identity software takes over the login process by using a single user identity that has been predefined. awork receives a message from the central tool: it shows that the user has sufficient permissions to log in, and the user is then logged into awork. His rights are not revoked until they are revoked in the main tool.

With which single sign-on providers can I link awork?

To ensure secure login with single sign-on, you link awork once with a primary tool, the so-called “Identity Provider“. From an IT perspective, this means that all access rights only have to be managed in one place, which increases user convenience.

Our awork Single Sign-On supports the following Identity providers:

Note: We have chosen to use the modern OpenID Connect standard, the newer version of SAML 2.0, based on OAuth 2.0.

Why should I use single sign-on in my organization?

One of the major benefits of SSO is data security: Your company retains control over all access rights of your users with only one set of credentials.

The system admin no longer has to check every single access for employees but can focus on more important areas of activity thanks to the security provided by the central identity provider.

In addition, single sign-on is a big plus for users, as they only need one central login instead of different passwords for their applications. This saves a lot of time and nerves when logging in.

You want to introduce Single Sign-On in your company, too? You can find detailed step-by-step instructions for configuring each connection, including setup instructions, in our Help Center.

Note: We do not yet have the so-called provisioning, with which you can manage the central user rights in addition to the login. We already have a concept for this and are working on making this feature available to you.

After you have configured everything, you simply log in to awork. There you will find the Sign in via SSO button, and you will be automatically redirected to the SSO login screen or to your dashboard after a successful login.
